Traditional Drawing.

I need to break-away from digital painting once in awhile.. Anyway, I wanted to do traditional paintings apart from CGing.. =3 Tada~! Here’s the latest piece.. Clavis Sama from Angelique. (I’m crazy about him.) I want to try semi realism style instead of anime style.. But it’s not really successful.. Oh well, never mind..

It’s really a big difference between traditional and digital.. I’ve already knew ever since I started digital painting in late 2003.. I prefer digitally than traditionally. It’s hard to color traditionally, especially I keep making mistakes.. or worst ruin the whole piece and can’t do anything about it.. ToT Well, at least if it’s done digitally, there’s a undo button if anything goes wrong in the process.. =D
However, there’s a great satisfaction whenever I can finish the whole drawing traditionally. (even though I knew there’s mistakes that cannot be correct or fix.) I just can’t describe with words.

1. Firstly the sketch. References: Pose image from Eric Mun.. (I don’t remember which website.) Face: Feimo, the sims 2, sd dolls.


2. Forget to take a photo of the lineart.. (-__-;) Starts to color from skin..



3. Next add some base for his hair. Don’t remember why I chooses blue..



4. A close-up.



5. One more close-up for his face. Lol.



6. Next, I added gray tone for his hair and base tone for his clothes.. his hair looks a little sea-bluish to me.. (>w<) *This is the part, when I view the photos through camera, only then I realize… HIS LIPS ARE HUGE~!! NOSE TOO SHORT~!! HAND TOO BIG~!!! ANATOMY PROBLEMS~!! Agghhhhh~!!! But it’s too late, I can’t change it.. Why didn’t I notice this in the first place~!!! It always happen to me.. *



7. Another close-up again.



8. Continue the next day... Now, I added black tone to his hair and his clothes. Somehow, I just can’t color hair.. I’ve ruin it.. totally.. orz

10. This is all the materials I was using.. I wanna play with the background, hence I used white oil pastels simply scribble all over the white empty space..



11. Here is the almost finished piece.



12. While I was painting the bg, I realize many watercolor was dried up, so I added some water in. Then closes the cap and start to shake the tube. (Earlier I did use the cloth to cover-up the tube. But I thought the cap was tightly closed and so....) seconds later.. I notice the floor have purple paint drops.. I quickly turn around to my horror, the purple watercolor already splatter few drops on the drawing~!!! Right on to his face was one huge purple paint~! *Scream~!* Quickly uses plenty of clean water to wash off that huge drop.. Leaving a blot there.



13. I like to add some white sparkles on the drawing but because I run out of poster color long time ago, I’ve to replace it with the white dried watercolor.. Looks more like dandruff to me.. (-__-;)

15. Comparing the differences. Left side was my OC: Yao. Done back in Aug 2001, Right: Clavis sama. From: Angelique. Done: Feb 2008. See the difference between the coloring? Wonder if I’ve improve or not..


16. All of these was done back in 2006 - 2007 (except the latest Clavis sama from top right.) What do they have in common.. All done either 90% or 100% traditionally. I’ve already upload these four drawing in DevianArt.

17. Finally, scan the A3 size and tried to put them together. Added more sparkles with ps. TADA~! Its finish~! I wonder should I upload this in DevianArt or not.. Hmmmm….

It’s confirm.. upgrading..

I know this is ridiculous and stupid.. (Make a mountain out of a molehill.) I’m sure that when the time comes, everyone will be facing this same problems like me.
I shouldn’t fret over these stupid minor problems.. But I can’t help it~!!! My neighbor showed a letter to mum (she haven’t open the letterbox yet.) saying that the upgrading plan starts around this August or September until 2011.. O.o Wonder which block being upgrading first.. no matter which block.. me already siao liao…

Anyway, I feel so dead now… orz I really don’t know what to do.. Though it’s just six months away or even longer but.. I’m always so paranoid.. I don’t know if I can go through it.. Ling says definitely will get rashes.. *sob*
Not just skin problems, personal hygiene and others issues will surface too.. *scratch head…*

Finally, finish cleaning.. Well, sort of bah.. just one more day to go~! Chinese New Year is just a day away.

Last Sat, went for reunion dinner. Meet all my cousins. Take some pictures.. Later on, my uncle got very drunk. During dinner, I saw him crying. I wonder what’s going on.. Mum told me, he was very happy at first, he even ask grandma what she wants.. Well, grandma joked and says she wants the moon. Uncle then answer, he’ll fetch a pail of water and let the moon reflect on the water.. and he laugh.. (Something like that.. I forget liao..) Grandma kept quiet.. Seconds later, he start to cry.. He said: (or assume), he’s no good.. (Something like that…)


I’m not sure how long he went on like that.. Everyone knows he’s really drunk.. Let’s just says he: 有很多辛酸的事放在内心里。都不说。 酒后吐真言。I guess he’s very lonely and sad.. I know it’s very miserable being lonely or sad.. Looking at him like that, I felt sad..

Later, we have to send him home.. I was quite excited because bro was driving the lorry. (That was the first time I saw him driving..) He has to follow my aunt car from behind. (Papa accompany uncle in aunt’s car. Just in case..) I can only say one word for my brother’s driving skill: Fast~! He drove very fast. Woo..

Yah~! After dinner, we went to shop around. Ting saw a very nice sticker. She brought it and share with us~! Thanks gurl~! ♥

I’ve major art block for weeks and month.. Papers was right front of me, picking up the pencil.. Ready to draw.. but.. Nothing came out of my mind.. Holding the pencil pausing for 5 mins, 10 mins passes.. Blank brain.. nothing.. Staring at a white piece of paper.. nothing inspired me..

Me & my itchy hand.. Well, I thought coloring the background into daylight would look pleasant but I guess not.. Totally ruin everything..



Gave up on the daylight plan.. I’ve changed the entire drawing’s atmosphere.. Once again, using the blending options..


Finally, flatten the layers. Then duplicate the layers, applied ‘Gaussian blur’ change the blending mode to ‘hard light’.. blah blah.. and so on.. Tada~! It’s done.. I love to applied blur effect very much.. makes the entire drawing looks dreamy..

I decide to change his face because I’m not really satisfy with his face.. Hence, I’ve to repaint his face again.. Argh.. This time, I use Eric Mun picture for reference.. Still, I’m not really happy with the result.. I wanted to tried Feimo’s style.. but sadly I fail.. Then, finally came his eyebrow.. wonder which one suits him most…


Lol, now.. It’s hairstyling time. It’s hard for me, since I’ve no fashion senses not to mention hairstyling.. *sweat* I still go on ahead with it anyway. Starting from 1- 8, these are just concepts that I trying out.. 1, 2 & 8 are my favorites. Which hairstyle should I pick? Hmmm….


I can’t stop laughing when I painted this hairstyle out of random.. Hmmm… doesn’t it remind you of some anime characters? Lol

Let’s add a thick pair of eyebrow.. Hehehe… Any clue? Yup, it reminds me of Gai Sensei and Rock Lee of Naruto.. Hahaha

Yah~! After weeks and almost month of serious art block. Finally, when I saw one of Feimo’s painting, I got inspired by it. (沉睡已久的细胞终于苏醒了。开始燃烧起来了~! 哈哈哈~!) I was able to produce something. Well sort of.. lol. Here is the sketch..



Such an awkward pose. Anatomy all went wrong.. I didn’t even notice while sketching.. Never mind.. just a concept, not going to use the lineart anyway..


I wanted to paint a semi-realism painting... ^-^ (hope it turns out well.. pray hard.. )
I needed reference to paint his face.. Left side is an image I was referring to all the while.



In the beginning, I want him to look rugged and sexy.. But I don’t like the sketch.. so have to repaint.. I kinda like how he looks like for this.. Well this is the just a concept.. Not even finalize yet..

Yes~! I’ve already finish watching Coffee Prince~! My mum loves it more than I do.. lol Gong Yoo is so adorable and cute.Yoon Eun Hye is so pretty even when she’s a tomboy.

I love the opening theme.. Lalala, its Love. By: The Melody. La la la la la~! La la la la la~!

Gong Yoo was also in movie called: ‘She’s on Duty’. The female leading actress of this movie was Kim Sun Ah. (She’s one of my favorite actress~! ♥♥) Also a comedy movie that I loved. ^-^

Yesterday, I was ransacking my cupboard for something, then I saw my stickers.. Well, it’s been a long time since I touch it.. So, I take the whole ‘basket’ out for a look.. he he .. I started to spread all the stickers on the bed.. Almost occupied the whole bed.. Out of curiosity, I started to count the stickers.. Gosh… 370++ of stickers.. I must be insane..

I’ve stopped collection stickers for many year liao.. (Lucky no more wasting..) Siao man… Wasted so many $$$ on all this… but I don’t regret lah.. 小的时候，没有这么多美丽的stickers, 所以一旦看到美丽的， 我就很想买。现在都不买了。对这些东西没什么兴趣了。（ 除非我真的看到非常漂亮的吧。）

Making a mess..

Yesterday, trying to organize the drawings in my file.. Well, actually I’m trying to lighten my load.. *sweats* I’ve some junks and sketches in my black file (also act as my table.) all pile up. It’s heavy to carry so I have to sort out and place it into another file.. Still, I didn't clear up much..



I’m making a mess.. instead of organizing properly.. What's more I place it on my parents bed. XD


Stacking up all the file.. These are just only some of it.. Few inches thick.. These files contain drawings/sketches/junks mostly from late 2006 to 2007..

Yes, it’s Inuyasha Fanarts linearts~! The first one (left) done in January. The second and third in July 2007. (I’m holding back all these for later.)



These 3 old painting all painted on pink vanguard sheets, I assume it’s around early or in late 1996s since there is no date.. Medium: poster paint.. (Its horrible right?!) Both top paintings are my earliest characters so uncreative right~?! Their faces look all the same.. Their hair, don’t have any shades only base color and fully overloaded white strips.. Well it’s actually it’s highlight for their hair.. I don’t know why I paint until like that back then.. (-__-;) (Heads.. all heads more heads… scary..)

Finish another drawing~! Yeah~! Amanda (紫莹) she was my first original character. ^-^
Initially, I painted with oc, but after awhile I find the color is too soft.. Hence, switch over to ps…


The process..
1. The sketch.. Most of my sketches look better than my lineart.. So, I decide to use just plain sketch for this piece.
2. Next, finish coloring the character.. as for the background I don't have any idea yet.. So just anyhow paint it first..
3. Later, I repaint the background..
4. Still, not really please with the bg, so repaint again..
5. Next, add some butterflies, branches and leaves to create a mysterious feeling.
6. Now, my favorite part.. Playing with the blending options like: color balance, hue & sat and selective color options. Well, I thought it look nice, but soon after I realize it turns out over dosage of blue~! ^_^;
7. So, I tried to change another colors..
8. Then another attempt..


In the end.. I pick out no.7 then duplicate the layer then blur the image and change the blending option to ‘ softlight’. There… voila~! (though, I still prefer the no.6 blue image better.)

Xiao Yao II

One of my character: Xiao Yao. (逍遥) Color in oc/ps switching back and forth.. Basically, it’s colored in oc then ps.. His actual hair color is green and eyes are blue, but I’m so obsess with purple so change his hair color and his eyes color in this piece..

The process.. (From left to right) First, the sketch. Second, some clean up around the edge and his eye.. Third, color with oc. Fourth pic, enhanced and more coloring in ps. Lastly, his actual hair color is green..



Tada completed~! *Heart* Initially, I didn’t wanna add any abs for him but it looks strange with without the muscles..
Anatomy may be wrong.. Don’t know how to draw his right arm well.. Since I don’t have reference… *I’m not gonna upload this piece in DA.. Though I really love this piece very much but is not good enough to display it there… *

I did mention before in my journal of redrawing this piece: Here traditionally and it’s done.


I redraw it traditionally rather than digitally.. Here is the concept.. Much better than the previous piece.. I’ve printed the sketch but haven’t ink it yet..

不甘心啊~！So.. The next day, I tried to look for a clearer picture of him.. I found one nice picture of him from here: SHINHWA OFFICIAL SITE. Print it out and begin to draw once again.


Here the process steps..



After several hours (4-5 hours above) of sketching/cleaning and smudging it’s finally completed. Now then scanned and edit his eyes.. (Just add white spot around his eyes only) and it’s done~! Somehow, I think I’ve ruin his hair (can’t draw hair..) and his charming smile.. The whole proportions looks slanted.. *sweats* At least its way better and those previous drawings of him…

Tools: Mechanical pencil 0.5 HB, 2B, 4B and 6B. Edit with ps.

Yes~! ♥ Finally able to upload something.. Yup, it’s Eric Mun from Shinhwa~!

Initially, I’ve no idea who he was when I watch Super Rookie.. Later, when I saw him dancing in one of the episode, I thought Wow his good.. so.. out of curiosity, I looked through Wikipedia and I realize he’s actually from Shinhwa~! (0o0) ♥ ♥ ♥


Since, I was having major art blocks, I thought of drawing some fanarts or something.. Whatever.. I’m just trying to remove the art blockage~!! So.. I thought of drawing a portrait of someone.. Dang~! Eric came into my mind… So.. lol


At first, without any references, I tried to remember how he looks like.. I failed.. so anime style..
Next, the second one with reference.. but the picture is too small.. Can’t see properly..
Third picture, I’m not really please with the result of the second piece so I redraw it in 15-20 mins time more or less. Way faster than the second piece.. Still… looks errrr..

This was done not long ago.. I was inspired by one of S.H.E’s song: 星星之火 that time.. This was sketch digitally in oc/ps.. Not really please with the outcome and the coloring concept. Perhaps I’ll redraw and ink it traditionally. I feel more comfortable with traditional sketch and traditional outline.

++ At a loss. ++

Lately, I’ve been very unmotivated.. Nothing inspires me. 脑袋空空的。 没有灵感。Hardly ever touch my mechanical pencil.. Drawings and sketches turn out awful. Not to mention digital sketches too..(Fail) Also, I’m torn between whether to draw in anime or semi realism style.. Non of it was performed well.. Barely even complete any paintings or colorings.. Been very confused and worn out… I can’t continue… so stuck.. My head hurts… perhaps I’m too hasty.. I wanted to do well in both style.. Thus backfire.. (o_o)
